 Meet The Counselor

Fiordaliza Connell, Bilingual School Counselor

As a Bilingual School Counselor with the New York Department of Education, she works with teachers, parents, and support staff creating an educational environment that meets the academic, social, and emotional needs of our school community.  During her 21 years with the Board of Education, she has established a proven record of implementing counseling and educational programs that reach every student. These programs were geared towards improving the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for successful academic achievement, career development, and personal growth. She has served as an on-call Crisis Counselor for a large network of schools within the tristate area. In addition to her counseling responsibilities, she performs multiple roles within the school as outlined in the Consolidated Plan, Safety Plan, and Building Response Plan.  As the community liaison, she works with many neighborhood businesses and fosters partnerships with non-profits organizations.  For gifted and talented students seeking independent boarding schools, she provides advance placement coaching for Prep-for-Prep, A Better Chance, TEAK, and the Oliver Scholar Program. Her cross-functional experience has uniquely equipped her with a practical understanding of the profession.

In addition, Mrs. Connell is an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate School Counseling Department at Mercy College. In this capacity, she supervises guidance interns, evaluates internship sites and teaches multiple courses within the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. She is a proud recipient of the Mercy College Excellence in Adjunct Instruction Award and the Outstanding Performance as a New York City Public School Counselor Award. In 2019 she was awarded the Hance Family Foundation Beautiful Me Impact Award (as shown on the picture below).
