About Our School Guidance Program
The counseling program at IS 206 will reach every student and will focus on the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for successful academic achievement, career development, and personal/social growth. The counselor’s time is spent in a way that maximizes the benefits that every student is able to receive from the program. Most importantly,  our school counseling program is comprehensive in scope, preventative in design, and developmental in nature. ​

Guidance and Counseling Goals
Grade 6:  IS 206 6th grade students will acclimate to the middle school setting while gaining an understanding of academic and social responsibilities and career opportunities.
Grade 7:  IS 206 7th grade students will develop self-awareness and responsibility for their choices both academically and socially.
Grade 8: IS 206 8th grade students will value positive relationships with students and adults while learning self-advocacy regarding their future.

​Our counseling department’s mission is to educate all students in academic, career, and social competencies which will enhance student achievement and advance them in becoming responsible members of society.  

Vision of the School Counseling Program
All Students at IS 206 will develop the academic skills needed to be lifelong learners to pursue their career goals. Students will also develop the emotional resilience to face the challenges of an ever-evolving world and be responsible, productive members of society.

Our counseling activities aligns with the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) Mindsets,  Behaviors, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.

Category 1: Mindset Standards
School counselors encourage the following mindsets for all students.
Belief in development of whole self, including a healthy balance of mental, social/emotional and physical well-being

Category 2: Behavior Standards
Students will demonstrate the following standards through classroom lessons, activities and/or individual/small-group counseling.

1. Demonstrate critical-thinking skills to make informed decisions
